After reading last week's Warm Thoughts column with the winning poem on relatives, you perhaps anticipated (as I have) just what I will write about those relatives - the ones who attended the family reunion. Yes, this reunion was a real historic event as it was the 60th anniversary. Imagine 60 years having a Werner Reunion on the second Sunday of August.
As an in-law, have learned throughout the years to develop some listening skills as my future plans are to be a lifelong learner. Relatives can teach one so much. I will share with you some warm thoughts and the theme of listening.
I'm Listening
I'm listening, dear relatives, to what you have to say.
Reunions are for the wise guys who have already had their day.
Oh, but we're the next generation who still love to do our thing.
You guys love your rocking chair. And Oh boy, you still can sing.
We're the teenagers in this clan. We try so hard to get along
with every generation and we love to sing their song.
Lullaby, don't forget us. We are so young and sweet.
Because everyone just loves us. And family reunions are our big treat.
New additions to the joys of sharing with family and all those relatives are some of life's treasures. Reunions can renew us and strengthen the bonds. I was so impressed by the dear lady who managed to make all 60 reunions of her husband's family. She is now in a wheelchair and in great pain after experiencing severe burns on her body. Yet her cheerful smile and her pioneer survival skills inspired us all. I'll see you all at next year's reunion.
Warm thought - Learn how happiness is with all those who wish to sing and always find the song. Swedish proverb: Enjoy every day of the rest of the summer.
