Episode 53: A Mother's Fortress →

It is always a joy to receive surprises in the mail! A letter from a friend in Texas shared a poem called “Thoughts of Home.” She had received it from someone in Nebraska who found it in her Bible. I thought it was a good poem to share as Mother's Day is so near!

Thoughts of Home

Home is where the heart is where the children's scribbled art is

Where the random blocks and skates are, where the socks without their mates are

Home is where the bills are, where the fevers and the chills are

Where the crumbs of bread and cake are, where no one knows where the rakes are

Home is where the weeds grow, where all except the seeds grow,

Where the dogs and frogs and cats are, where the scratches, cuts, and spats are

Home is where the salami is and thank heaven where the mommy is!

In case you were thinking of baking a cake for Mother's Day, this recipe will be appreciated by all mothers! Light oven, get bowl, spoons, and ingredients. Grease pan. Crack nuts. Remove ten blocks and seven toy autos from kitchen table. Measure two cups of flour, remove Johnny's hands from flour. Wash flour often. Measure one more cup of flour to replace flour on floor. Put flour, baking powder and salt in sifter. Get dustpan and brush up pieces of bowl, which Johnny knocked on floor. Get another bowl. Answer doorbell. Return to kitchen. Remove Johnny's hands from bowl. Wash Johnny. Get out a bag. Answer phone Return. Take out greased pan. Look for Johnny, remove a quarter inch of salt from pan. Look for Johnny, get another pan and grease it. Answer telephone. Return to kitchen and find Johnny. Remove his hands from bowl. Wash shortening, etc, etc, off of them. Take grease pan and find quarter inch of nutshells in it. Head for Johnny who flees, knocking bowl off table. Wash kitchen floor. Wash table. Wash walls, wash dishes, call the baker, relax in your rocker. Isn't motherhood, the most creative job in the world?

Warm Thoughts: A mother's prayer can build a fortress around her children. Happy Mother's Day!
