Every Veterans Day brings to mind many memories. It is also known as Armistice Day, and in some locales, it is Remembrance Day, Victory Day, and World War One Memorial Day. Some places observe silent memorials at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month each year. It is a time of remembrance from the heart to all who stood tall for freedom. These thoughts by an unknown author, say it very well.
From the Heart
Those of us who've never served can't truly understand the sacrifices that you made, protecting life and land. You are called from homes and jobs. You never turned around. You did more than what was asked of you, in air, on sea, on ground. You gave for us in freedoms name. Till now the time has come for us to give you in return, a thank you from the heart.
Last summer when I was in Washington DC, I met the author of the poem, "America's Prayer." This poem by Richard G Wench, is now in the collection commemorating the Statue of Liberty National Monument Ellis Island Immigration Museum.
America's Prayer
Oh God above, I trust in Thee to keep my country free. With honesty and felicity, I pledge my love to Thee. The Liberty we have today will only last till dawn. Unless we live our life with you, our eternal life is gone. For lies, deceit will surely meet with failure, death, and pain. And our endurance will not keep if our faith in you does wane. Adultery, greed, dishonesty have always shown to lead to suffering, pain and poverty in every living creed. The hate we have must go away, our lust must turn to dust. If only to dear God, we pray, and pledge Him all our trust. The Roman Empire is no more and death did show no sorrow For men that live just for the day, with no thought of tomorrow. Belief in God will surely bring a nation strong and free. Eternal life will then be ours, as well as liberty. Thank you Richard for touching our hearts with your warm thoughts and prayer for our country. America has been built on faith and love in action. God bless America and God bless you.
